Key takeaways
- Docks is a Northside location, not a separate district Do not confuse it with Heywood Docks, Corpo Plaza Docks or other waterfront areas in Night City.
- Cargo Bay is the public-facing market It contains a food vendor, weapons vendor and medical vendor operating from repurposed shipping containers.
- Ebunike Docks is a distinct north-eastern sub-area It contains the moored ship DV Ebunike and becomes central during the side job Chippin’ In.
- The dominant hostile groups are Maelstrom and Scavengers Their presence varies by exact compound and mission state.
- The Docks have one confirmed fast-travel dataterm NID: Docks. It is the most practical starting point for exploring the area.
- Important rewards are progression-dependent Johnny’s jacket, Johnny’s gun and the Porsche 911 Turbo are associated with the Chippin’ In sequence, not with ordinary free exploration of the Docks.
About this guide
Scope: Base game Cyberpunk 2077, including the Northside Docks, Cargo Bay and Ebunike Docks. Phantom Liberty content and the separate Heywood, City Centre and historical tabletop-game docks are excluded.
Overview
The Docks are a small but unusually important waterfront area in Northside, Watson. On the district map, the area is identified by the fast-travel point NID: Docks, previously labelled simply Docks in earlier versions and guides. It is not a separate Night City district. Rather, it is a named industrial location within Northside, itself one of Watson’s sub-districts.
The location is best understood as a broad dockside complex rather than only the container market near the fast-travel terminal. Its western and central sections contain the Cargo Bay marketplace, the Maelstrom-controlled industrial yards and several mission locations. Farther north-east is Ebunike Docks, centred on the container ship DV Ebunike. The two areas are connected geographically and are commonly grouped under the Docks label, but they have different uses, layouts and story functions.
The Docks are controlled mainly by Maelstrom, with Scavengers also present around the Cargo Bay and braindance-related facilities. The area combines an open-world shopping stop with hostile compounds, NCPD presence, mission-only interiors and one of the most important Johnny Silverhand story sequences in the game.
Boundaries and hierarchy
Night City
The Docks sit in the northern part of Night City, the coastal megacity where most of Cyberpunk 2077 takes place.
Watson
Watson is the district where V begins the game after the prologue. It contains several industrial, residential and commercial sub-districts, including Northside.
Northside
Northside is Watson’s industrial sub-district and is strongly associated with Maelstrom. The Docks are one of its named areas, alongside locations such as All Foods, Totentanz, the Northside motel and the Old WNS Station.
The Docks
The Docks label covers more than the immediate area around the fast-travel terminal. The verified named sections are:
The boundary between the main Docks and the wider Northside industrial zone is not expressed as a hard in-game border. For practical purposes, use the Docks fast-travel terminal and the waterfront industrial yards as the core area, then treat the Ebunike complex as the north-eastern extension. The broader Maelstrom compound used in Dirty Biz lies south of the docks and should not automatically be counted as part of the Docks proper.
Geography and atmosphere
The Docks are built around old port infrastructure, freight containers, warehouses, service roads, cranes and fenced-off industrial yards. The area does not function as a modern commercial harbour. Instead, it is a semi-abandoned logistics zone where criminal groups have taken over the remaining usable infrastructure.
The in-game database describes the Docks as a former port now controlled by Maelstrom. Shipments arriving in the area must be cleared with the gang, with illegal cargo making cooperation more practical than trying to remove Maelstrom from the local supply chain. This explains why the area contains both rough public commerce and heavily guarded criminal compounds.
The Cargo Bay is the most visibly inhabited section. Its shops are built from old transport containers, creating a compact market surrounded by the harsher industrial landscape. It is comparatively safe while vendors are operating, although gang members and hostile encounters can be found nearby.
Ebunike Docks have a different feel. The area is more clearly a gang-controlled yard, with access routes leading towards the ship and mission buildings. During Chippin’ In, the location becomes an active Maelstrom combat zone rather than a normal shopping or exploration space.
Named subareas and landmarks directory
Ebunike Docks
These names are drawn from the location directory and in-game or map-based naming. Some are functional locations, while others are environmental labels or mission-associated areas. A name alone does not guarantee that a building is enterable or that it provides a permanent service.
Ebunike Docks
Access and routes
From the fast-travel terminal
The simplest route is to select NID: Docks from the map. From the terminal, the Cargo Bay and its vendors are the most immediate points of interest. Follow the industrial roads and waterfront paths to reach the outer yards.
By road
The Docks can be reached from the wider Northside road network. Driving is possible, but the area’s narrow industrial lanes and fenced compounds make walking more useful once you are close to the destination.
To Ebunike Docks
Ebunike Docks lies farther north-east from the Cargo Bay area. In ordinary exploration, some approaches may be blocked, inactive or guarded depending on the location. During Chippin’ In, the mission provides the intended route and places V and Rogue at the relevant dock complex.
Mission access
Several interiors and restricted areas are only meaningfully accessible during their associated activity. The Docks should therefore be divided into:
Do not treat every visible door, container or building label as a permanent explorable interior.
Mission access
| Access type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Open-world access | Cargo Bay, vendor area, streets and visible industrial yards |
| Restricted hostile area | Maelstrom-controlled yards and compounds |
| Mission-led access | DV Ebunike and parts of Ebunike Docks during Chippin’ In |
| Environmental or non-functional location | Some named warehouses, facilities and dock structures |
Shops and services
Cargo Bay
Cargo Bay is a scavenger-run market made from repurposed shipping containers. The word “scavenger” here describes the market’s operators and supply chain. It should not automatically be read as meaning that every vendor belongs to the Scavengers gang.
The market is particularly useful early in the game because it places several ordinary services close together. Its container layout also makes it easy to revisit after completing nearby activities.
Other named facilities
The Docks directory includes HeavenMed, The Shuttle Dock and Abandoned Warehouse, but available evidence does not establish that each is a permanent player service, conventional shop or fully enterable commercial interior. They should be treated as named environmental or location entries unless the game presents a specific interaction.
Cargo Bay: The market contains three named functional vendors
| Vendor | Service | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Corpo Snack | Food vendor | Sells food items and consumables |
| Iron & Lead | Weapons vendor | Sells weapons; inventory may change with progression and level |
| ParaMED | Medical vendor | Sells medical supplies and related consumables |
Residents, visitors and ordinary NPCs
The Docks do not have a large permanent cast of named residents. Its population is primarily made up of:
Cargo Bay is described as one of the busiest parts of Northside, which is why an NCPD unit is permanently positioned nearby despite the area’s criminal control. This is a useful example of Night City’s practical compromise: the police presence does not amount to full control of the district, but it is enough to respond to incidents around the market.
Named story-associated characters
Rogue, Johnny and Grayson are connected to the Chippin’ In mission instance. They should be distinguished from ordinary Docks residents and from characters who may only be mentioned in dialogue or records.
Named story-associated characters
Factions and security
Maelstrom
Maelstrom is the principal controlling faction in the Docks. The gang manages cargo access, occupies industrial facilities and protects criminal operations in the area. Its control is reflected in the hostile compounds surrounding the more public Cargo Bay section.
During Chippin’ In, Maelstrom members defend the route towards the DV Ebunike. Expect a mixture of firearms, heavy weapons, melee attackers and cyberware-enhanced enemies. The exact combat experience depends on V’s build, difficulty and whether the player chooses stealth or open combat.
Scavengers
Scavengers are present around the Docks, particularly in connection with the illicit braindance trade and the Cargo Bay environment. The area’s market is described as scavenger-run, but this does not mean the entire Docks is owned by the Scavengers. Maelstrom remains the dominant gang in the broader location.
NCPD
NCPD maintains a unit near Cargo Bay. This is a fixed security presence rather than evidence that the whole district is policed effectively. Criminal activity, gang control and restricted compounds remain central to the location’s identity.
Sacrum Profanum / Losing My Religion
Cargo Bay is associated with Sacrum Profanum, also known as Losing My Religion depending on the player’s version and quest presentation. The activity involves a monk-related encounter and is tied to the broader Northside area.
Because the activity can be encountered through open-world exploration rather than being the defining mission of the Docks, it is best treated as a Cargo Bay-associated activity rather than a mission that gives access to the whole location. Sacrum Profanum is listed as an associated quest for Cargo Bay.
Dirty Biz
Dirty Biz is one of Regina Jones’ Watson gigs. Its Maelstrom compound is south of Northside’s docks, making it a nearby but separate location for boundary purposes. The gig concerns an illicit braindance operation involving a father and son, and it is one of the darker activities in the Northside industrial zone.
For a clean location guide, do not fold the entire Dirty Biz compound into the Docks simply because it is close by. It is better described as a neighbouring Maelstrom facility south of the dock complex.
Chippin’ In
Chippin’ In is the Docks’ major story activity. After the earlier Johnny and Rogue progression, Rogue contacts V and directs them towards the Ebunike. The ship is moored at Ebunike Docks, where V and Rogue investigate Maelstrom activity and search for information connected to Adam Smasher.
The mission has two important forms of content:
The mission can be approached stealthily or through direct combat. A guide should not imply that stealth is mandatory. The important requirement is reaching the relevant mission state and following the Ebunike objective.
Chippin’ In rewards and missable considerations
The wider side job provides several major Johnny-related rewards and unlocks later progression:
The Porsche is tied to the choice to spare Grayson and follow the resulting instructions to the vehicle container. If Grayson is killed immediately, the car may not be obtained through the normal intended route. The mission also has dialogue choices later at Johnny’s grave that affect access to the secret ending route, although that decision occurs away from the Docks.
Chippin’ In walkthrough
The exact reward presentation can vary with patch version and mission choices. The essential point is that these rewards are tied to Chippin’ In, not to a random loot table in the Docks.
Chippin’ In: steps
- 01The approach and assault on the Ebunike complex.
- 02The investigation aboard the DV Ebunike, including the confrontation with Jeremiah Grayson.
Chippin’ In walkthrough
- 01Progress the Johnny and Rogue storyline until Chippin’ In becomes available.
- 02Meet Rogue at the Afterlife when instructed.
- 03Travel with Rogue towards the docks.
- 04Enter the Ebunike dock complex and locate the data terminal indicated by the objective.
- 05Move through the Maelstrom-controlled area. Use stealth if you want to avoid a prolonged fight, but direct combat is also supported.
- 06Board or reach the relevant section of the DV Ebunike.
- 07Confront Jeremiah Grayson.
- 08If you want Johnny’s Porsche through the normal sequence, spare Grayson when the dialogue allows it.
- 09Follow the resulting instructions to the container and collect the vehicle.
- 10Continue the mission to obtain Johnny-related equipment and progress the later Rogue and Johnny questline.
Items and collectibles
The Docks contain ordinary loot, weapons, crafting components and consumables in the usual way. These should not be confused with guaranteed named collectibles.
The most significant fixed acquisitions associated with the area are mission rewards:
The Docks are not documented as a major tarot, cyberpsycho or iconic-weapon farming location. Random weapons and equipment may appear through enemies and containers, but their presence should not be presented as a fixed collectible directory without a reliable placement source.
Items and collectibles
| Item | How it is obtained | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Replica of Johnny’s Samurai jacket | Rogue’s Chippin’ In sequence | Progress Chippin’ In |
| Johnny’s aviators | Chippin’ In sequence | Progress the side job |
| Malorian Arms 3516 | Chippin’ In sequence | Complete the relevant confrontation |
| Johnny’s Porsche 911 Turbo | Grayson and container sequence | Spare Grayson and follow the instructions |
For a first visit, use this route
- 01Start at NID: Docks.
- 02Walk through the Cargo Bay and inspect all three vendors:
- 03Corpo Snack
- 04Iron & Lead
- 05ParaMED
- 06Check the nearby market and industrial lanes for open loot containers and local activity.
- 07Avoid entering hostile compounds unnecessarily if you have no active objective.
- 08Follow the waterfront and north-eastern industrial route towards Ebunike Docks.
- 09If Chippin’ In is active, make a manual save before entering the mission area.
- 10During the mission, search terminals and side rooms before leaving the Ebunike complex.
- 11If pursuing the Porsche, do not kill Grayson before exhausting the relevant dialogue.
- 12Return to Cargo Bay afterwards to use the vendors and fast-travel terminal.
Hazards and tactical advice
The main dangers are not environmental hazards but layered hostile spaces:
Stealth builds can use containers, side routes and hacking opportunities to isolate enemies. A loud approach is more straightforward but can draw several groups into the same fight. The Cargo Bay itself should not be treated as a permanently hostile arena unless a specific encounter or mission has changed its state.
The docks also contain many visual obstructions. Follow objective markers carefully during Chippin’ In, especially after entering the Ebunike compound, since the industrial layout can make the correct route less obvious than the map suggests.
Lore and significance
The Docks illustrate the collapse of formal infrastructure in Night City. A former port has not disappeared, but its useful functions have been absorbed by gangs, smugglers and informal markets. Maelstrom effectively acts as a customs authority, while Cargo Bay turns abandoned freight containers into a working marketplace.
The location also connects three of the game’s recurring themes:
Ebunike Docks add a historical layer through Johnny Silverhand. The moored ship is not merely another industrial landmark. It is the setting for V and Rogue’s attempt to follow the trail towards Smasher and Johnny’s unfinished business.
Lore and significance
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Corporate logistics | illegal and semi-legal cargo continues to move through the city. |
| Criminal governance | Maelstrom controls access where official institutions have lost practical authority. |
| Commercial survival | vendors and shoppers continue to operate beneath gang control because the market remains useful. |
