About this guide
Scope: Cyberpunk 2077 base game, including the post-game “One More Gig” state. Phantom Liberty content is excluded. Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the full Chippin’ In sequence, Johnny Silverhand’s equipment, Grayson, Adam Smasher and a post-ending loot room.
Overview
Ebunike Docks is a compact but important industrial location in Northside, Watson. It is best known as the mooring place of the old cargo ship Ebunike, which serves as a Maelstrom stronghold and one of Adam Smasher’s hideouts. In the base game, the location is principally a story area rather than a district with a large collection of vendors, apartments or repeatable activities.
The docks matter because they bring together several strands of Cyberpunk 2077: Johnny Silverhand’s lost possessions, Rogue Amendiares’ history, Maelstrom’s criminal logistics and Adam Smasher’s influence over the gang. The area is visited during “Chippin’ In”, the side job that awards Johnny’s iconic pistol and can also award his Porsche 911.
The name can cause confusion. Ebunike Docks is the Northside location. Ebunike is the ship within that location. The name is also unrelated to Ebunike Station, an NCART station elsewhere in Night City. These are separate entries and should not be treated as one large area.
Location and boundaries
Ebunike Docks occupies part of the industrial waterfront in Northside, on the northern side of Watson. The playable compound is centred on a dry dock, service yards, cargo areas and the ship Ebunike itself. It is not equivalent to every industrial waterfront structure visible around Northside.
The following nearby places are not treated as subareas of Ebunike Docks:
This distinction is important because Northside contains several visually similar industrial sites. Some nearby Scanner Hustles and cyberpsycho activities are in the same district but not inside Ebunike Docks. For example, Six Feet Under takes place at an abandoned train station south-east of the docks, while Where the Bodies Hit the Floor is associated with Totentanz.
Geography and layout
The location is built around a dry-docked container ship rather than an active open harbour. The ship is raised above the surrounding yard, with scaffolding, access stairs and industrial platforms leading towards its decks.
The location is more vertical than its small map footprint suggests. Players can approach the compound from the road and then move upwards through the yard, using cover, containers and the dry-dock structures before boarding the vessel.
During Chippin’ In, the game presents the docks as an infiltration site rather than a neutral open-world landmark. The route is controlled by Maelstrom combat encounters, and the ship becomes the main objective once V and Rogue reach the compound.

Some of these are descriptive names used to explain the playable space rather than separate map-marked locations. Ebunike is the named ship and should not be merged with Ebunike Docks.

History and lore
The docks were established as an industrial port on the northern waterfront. In the Time of the Red, they were associated with Watson’s commercial and manufacturing economy. Material from the Cyberpunk RED period describes the docks as an important port used by corporations and freight operators, with cargo moving between the waterfront and Watson’s industrial facilities. The port’s older commercial role contrasts sharply with its condition in 2077.
By 2077, the docks are controlled by Maelstrom. Their operation is deliberately difficult for the NCPD to dismantle. Maelstrom’s own records describe a system involving rotating ships, falsified manifests and rapidly changing routes. Cargo is unloaded at Ebunike and then moved elsewhere, particularly to Maelstrom-controlled facilities such as Totentanz and All Foods. The apparent lack of stored contraband is part of the gang’s strategy: a raid on the docks may find little evidence because the shipments are moved on quickly.
The gang’s control is not entirely independent. Adam Smasher has authority over the ship and its operations, while Jeremiah Grayson acts as his associate and local representative. The computers found around the dock show that Maelstrom members are uneasy about Grayson and resent Smasher’s power. Their messages describe Smasher as someone above the gang’s ordinary hierarchy, with even Maelstrom’s own leadership expected to follow his instructions.
The ship’s name has more than one proposed origin in Cyberpunk lore. Some accounts connect it with former Night City mayor Mbole Ebunike, while others attribute it to the vessel itself. The 2077 game establishes the ship as an old container vessel that has remained in Night City as a permanent fixture.
Factions and security
Maelstrom
Maelstrom is the active controlling faction at the docks. Its members guard the yard, protect the ship and support the gang’s shipping operation. Their presence is most obvious during Chippin’ In, when V and Rogue fight through the compound.
The dock computers provide more detail than the combat encounters alone. They identify:
Adam Smasher
Adam Smasher is not simply another Maelstrom gang member. The lore and in-game messages present him as a powerful outsider whose relationship with the gang is based on fear and authority. He uses the Ebunike as one of his hideouts, while Grayson supervises operations there.
Smasher is not fought at the docks in Chippin’ In. The mission instead uses the site to locate Grayson and learn more about Smasher’s position. The actual confrontation with Smasher occurs later in the main story.
NCPD and local security
There is no permanent NCPD checkpoint or friendly security office inside the location. The docks are a hostile gang compound when the story mission takes place. The lack of obvious police presence is consistent with the site’s role as an illicit port operated through concealment and rapid cargo movement.

Residents and named characters
Ebunike Docks has few ordinary named residents. Most named characters connected with it are present because of the Chippin’ In operation or the location’s lore.
Jeremiah Grayson
Grayson is Adam Smasher’s associate and the principal named opponent at the docks. He possesses Johnny Silverhand’s Malorian Arms 3516 and has information concerning Smasher’s whereabouts and Johnny’s past.
V confronts him on the Ebunike after fighting through the Maelstrom defenders. Grayson can be killed or spared. Sparing him creates the opportunity to obtain the key needed to access Johnny’s Porsche.
Rogue Amendiares
Rogue leads V to the docks during Chippin’ In. Her connection to Johnny and to the old mercenary world gives the location much of its emotional weight. She is a visitor and mission companion, not a permanent resident.
Johnny Silverhand
Johnny is not physically present as a living character, but his engram drives the investigation. His pistol and car are both stored at or connected with the docks, making the location one of the most significant places in Johnny’s personal questline.
Adam Smasher
Smasher is associated with the ship as its powerful occupant and controller, but he is not present for the main dock confrontation.

Computers, shards and written evidence
The docks contain computers with messages and files that expand the location’s lore. These are not merely generic terminals. They explain how Maelstrom manages the shipping network and how gang members view Smasher and Grayson.
The records establish that Maelstrom is not storing every shipment permanently at Ebunike. Instead, the location functions as a transfer point. The cargo is received, processed and moved to other destinations, which helps explain why the docks appear more like a fortified logistics base than a warehouse packed with visible contraband.
Computer and evidence directory
The exact availability of some files depends on the player’s progress through the mission and whether they search terminals before advancing. Treat individual shard and computer discoveries as mission-area evidence rather than separate side activities.
Access and routes
Normal open-world access
Ebunike Docks is located in Northside and can be approached by road once Watson is available for free exploration. The easiest practical route is to travel through Northside towards the marked location and follow the road into the industrial waterfront.
The compound may not function as a fully populated hostile base before its story sequence. Some doors, enemies and interior areas are tied to mission progression rather than permanently active open-world content.
Mission access
The mission route is largely linear, but there is enough room to explore containers, side platforms and the ship’s outer decks. The game’s main objective markers do not identify every computer, shard or loot container.
Mission access: The principal route is through “Chippin’ In”
- 01Progress through the Johnny and Rogue storyline until Rogue identifies Ebunike as the lead.
- 02Meet Rogue at the Afterlife when instructed.
- 03Accept the mission trip to Northside.
- 04Travel with Rogue to the docks.
- 05Follow the infiltration route through the compound.
- 06Search the available computer and investigate the ship.
- 07Board the Ebunike.
- 08Fight or pass the Maelstrom defenders.
- 09Confront Jeremiah Grayson.
- 10Decide whether to kill or spare him.
- 11Search the surrounding area before leaving.
Missions and activities
Chippin’ In
“Chippin’ In” is the defining activity at Ebunike Docks. It is a side job involving V, Johnny, Rogue and the search for Adam Smasher.
The mission is also a progression point for later Rogue content, including “Blistering Love”, provided the relevant dialogue and relationship conditions are met.
Activities not inside the docks
Several Northside activities are nearby but should not be listed as Ebunike Docks content:
These activities belong to the wider Northside area, not to the Ebunike Docks compound.
Enemies and combat
The main enemies are Maelstrom members defending the dock and ship. Their exact equipment and difficulty can vary with the player’s level and game version, so this guide does not treat individual weapons or loot rolls as fixed location rewards.
The principal named combat encounter is Jeremiah Grayson. The fight takes place on or around the Ebunike during Chippin’ In. Once Grayson is defeated, the player can interrogate him. The game allows a choice between killing him and sparing him.
The ship can become dangerous at close range because its walkways and upper deck restrict movement. A stealth-focused character should avoid triggering every defender at once, while a heavy weapons build can use the open dockyard before moving into the tighter ship sections.
Rewards and collectibles
Malorian Arms 3516
Johnny Silverhand’s iconic pistol is obtained from Jeremiah Grayson during Chippin’ In. The weapon is not a random dock drop. It is a fixed quest reward associated with the Grayson encounter.
Porsche 911
Johnny’s Porsche 911 is stored in a container connected with the dock sequence. If V spares Grayson, he can provide the key that opens the container. This makes the car missable during a careless first playthrough, although the mission can be replayed only by loading an earlier save, not through a normal mission replay system.
The Malorian and Porsche are not mutually exclusive in the normal mission flow. Sparing Grayson allows V to obtain the car while still taking the pistol after the confrontation.
Replica of Johnny’s Samurai Jacket
The jacket is awarded earlier in the wider Chippin’ In sequence, when Rogue gives it to V. It is associated with the Ebunike operation but is not a dockyard pickup. This distinction matters when cataloguing rewards.
Post-game ship stash
After completing an ending, the player can choose to return to the open world through the post-ending continuation option commonly called “One More Gig”. An access token obtained during the endgame can then be used to open a locked room at the rear of the Ebunike.
That room contains a high-value stash associated with Adam Smasher, including the iconic smart shotgun Ba Xing Chong. This is a progression-gated reward, not an item available on the first visit to the docks. Sources differ in how they describe the precise endgame trigger and access sequence, so the safest instruction is to return after the relevant ending sequence with the access token in the inventory.
Porsche 911: The practical sequence is
- 01Defeat Grayson.
- 02Choose the dialogue option that spares him.
- 03Accept the key.
- 04Follow the objective to the container.
- 05Open it and claim the Porsche.
Reward directory
| Reward | Where or when | Fixed or variable | Missability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Malorian Arms 3516 | Taken from Grayson during Chippin’ In | Fixed | Normally available during the mission |
| Porsche 911 | Container opened with Grayson’s key | Fixed | Can be missed by killing Grayson or leaving without opening the container |
| Replica of Johnny’s Samurai Jacket | Given by Rogue during the wider job | Fixed | Story reward |
| Ba Xing Chong | Locked post-game stash on the Ebunike | Fixed | Requires the appropriate endgame access state |
| Ordinary weapons and gear | Maelstrom enemies and containers | Variable | Subject to level scaling and loot generation |
Shops, services and facilities
No permanent shop, ripperdoc, gun vendor, clothing store, fast-food outlet or apartment is confirmed within Ebunike Docks itself.
These should not be interpreted as player services. For example, cargo equipment and terminals support the location’s story and atmosphere but do not provide a purchasable transport or trading service.
Suggested exploration route
For a first visit during Chippin’ In, use this order:
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Observe the approach. Look over the yard before entering combat.
- 02Search the outer compound. Check containers and side platforms before boarding.
- 03Read the computers. The messages explain Maelstrom’s logistics and Grayson’s relationship with Smasher.
- 04Board the ship carefully. The upper deck is the story route, but the ship has side areas worth checking.
- 05Deal with Grayson. If you want Johnny’s Porsche, spare him and take the key.
- 06Open the container. Do this before leaving the dock area.
- 07Return after an ending. Use the post-game continuation and access token to check the locked stash room.
- 08Visit nearby sites separately. Treat Northside Docks, the abandoned station, Totentanz and the power plant as different locations.
Hazards and secrets
Mission state changes
The most important change is the difference between the first Chippin’ In visit and a later free-roam visit. Enemies, doors and loot access are not all guaranteed to remain in the same state after the mission.
Grayson’s choice
Killing Grayson immediately removes the simplest route to the Porsche key. Sparing him is therefore the safer choice for collectors.
Locked post-game room
The ship’s locked stash room is not an ordinary hidden room that can be opened through normal exploration. It is tied to endgame progression and the access token. Do not assume that a locked door during the first visit is a missed code or a bug.
Nearby locations mistaken for dock content
The industrial scenery continues beyond the marked compound, but neighbouring activities should not be folded into the location. This is especially relevant when making a completion checklist for Northside.
Trivia and wider appearances
Ebunike Docks appears in both Cyberpunk RED material and Cyberpunk 2077, but the two portrayals belong to different time periods. In the 2040s, the docks are presented as an important commercial port connected with Watson’s industrial economy. In 2077, the same general location has become a Maelstrom-controlled criminal facility.
The ship’s long-term presence also explains the location’s visual identity. It is not a modern, busy container terminal. It is an ageing vessel left in a dry dock and repurposed as a fortified hideout, storage site and operational base.
