Key takeaways

  • Location The Grand Imperial Mall is in Coastview, Pacifica, on or around Appian Way, Sunset and Rockway.
  • Scope Eden Beach is the unfinished amusement park immediately beside the mall, while Hotel Tropique is an unfinished hotel facility incorporated into the wider mall project. They are related locations, not interchangeable names for the main building.
  • Main story appearance The mall is the setting for I Walk the Line, part of the Voodoo Boys storyline.
  • Major enemies The initial hostile presence is the Animals, including their leader Sasquatch. After the main job, Scavengers may occupy the complex instead.
  • Named internal areas The most important are the garage, atrium, Triple Xtreme gym, Hator Theater and the boxing area used for Beat on the Brat.
  • Missable content Access to the cinema and the exact route through the building are tied to I Walk the Line. The boxing match is available through Beat on the Brat, but its outcome depends on the fight.

Base game guide. This article covers the Grand Imperial Mall and its immediately associated facilities in Cyberpunk 2077. It does not treat the wider Coastview district, Pacifica Pier, Batty’s Hotel or Dogtown as part of the mall itself.

Overview

The Grand Imperial Mall, usually abbreviated to GIM, is an unfinished shopping and entertainment complex in Coastview, Pacifica, on the western edge of Night City. It stands near the shoreline and is one of Pacifica’s clearest examples of a redevelopment project abandoned before opening. What was advertised as a luxury destination with dozens of shops, restaurants, leisure facilities, a cinema, hotel and amusement park instead became a fortified gang base, a NetWatch operations site and, later, a scavenger-haunted combat zone.

In the base game, the mall has two major functions. First, it is the setting for the main job I Walk the Line, where V infiltrates the complex to locate a NetWatch agent operating alongside the Animals. Second, it hosts the Pacifica stage of the boxing quest Beat on the Brat, where V fights Razor Hugh. Between those missions, the mall is also a useful combat and exploration site, particularly after its original occupants have been displaced.

Boundaries and hierarchy

The mall is part of Coastview, which is itself a sub-district of Pacifica. It should not be expanded into “all of western Pacifica”. Places such as Batty’s Hotel, Pacifica Pier, the Pacifica Serenity Bible Church and the unfinished NCART station are nearby Coastview locations, but they are separate sites.

The GIM complex is best understood as three connected layers:

The planned project was considerably larger than the playable commercial space suggests. Promotional material described six floors, more than seventy retail and service units, restaurants, a gym, cinema, hotel, amusement park and customer amenities such as sleeping pods and a purchase-linked ride-ticket lottery. Most of those are background world-building rather than usable player services.

Verified named places within the GIM scope

Scope note: The game presents many shopfronts and signs, but the available evidence does not establish a complete, authoritative directory of all planned retail units. Decorative storefront names should therefore not be presented as confirmed operating businesses or purchasable services.

History and atmosphere

Pacifica was intended to become a major redevelopment and leisure district, and the mall was planned as one of its centrepieces. Construction was nearly complete by 2069, but funding collapsed during the Unification War. The mall was consequently abandoned before its intended opening. In practical terms, it is not a ruined old shopping centre that declined after decades of use. It is a nearly finished commercial project that never reached normal operation.

The distinction matters when exploring. The building contains polished architectural elements, extensive signage and entertainment infrastructure, but it is also full of construction remnants, closed shutters, incomplete surfaces and improvised gang facilities. Placide’s description of it as “Pacifica’s biggest, ugliest temple to greed” captures the Voodoo Boys’ attitude towards the site. The Voodoo Boys control much of Pacifica, yet deliberately keep their distance from the mall because they regard it as a symbol of corpo vanity.

The illuminated interior sign provides one of the area’s better environmental details. Several letters in Grand Imperial Mall are no longer working, leaving the functioning letters to spell ANIMAL, reflecting the Animals’ occupation of the building.

Exterior and neighbouring facilities

Eden Beach

Eden Beach is the unfinished amusement park beside the mall. The original plan included an outdoor ferris wheel and rollercoaster. In the base game, the rollercoaster is one of the most recognisable landmarks around the GIM and is part of the wider Pacifica leisure development rather than an interior mall attraction.

The large rollercoaster can be restored and ridden through the optional Pacifica activity associated with the ride. The necessary interaction involves reaching the nearby power junction and rewiring it. This is an outdoor activity adjacent to the mall, not a service operated from inside the GIM. CD Projekt RED itself highlighted the ride as a hidden Pacifica attraction overlooking the coast behind the mall.

Hotel Tropique

Hotel Tropique was intended to be a five-star hotel connected to the mall development. It is also referred to as Hotel Haiti. Its history extends beyond the playable mall: the hotel was abandoned during the Unification War, and by 2071 its signage and windows had deteriorated badly. A braindance studio called Brainwave later used lower floors of the hotel for production, as described in the 2AM – She Calls sourcebook.

For a base-game GIM guide, Hotel Tropique should be listed as an associated facility and not treated as a normal hotel service. The available evidence does not establish ordinary guest access, functioning accommodation or a player-purchasable room there.

Internal layout

The playable interior is organised around a large open atrium with an upper gallery. The building’s broad vertical structure is more important than any complete floor-by-floor shopping map, because the player normally navigates it through mission objectives, escalators, side rooms and security-controlled passages.

Garage

The garage is the practical infiltration entrance used during I Walk the Line. Two Voodoo Boys sentries direct V towards this route after the meeting outside. Entering through the garage leads to Animal-controlled areas and eventually into the mall’s main interior.

The garage is not a public car park with normal civilian traffic. During the mission it functions as a guarded rear entrance and service area. Expect close-range combat if stealth fails.

The atrium is the mall’s central combat space. It consists of a lower floor surrounded by an upper gallery, with escalators and side rooms connecting the levels. The Animal presence is concentrated here, including a turret and multiple groups of enemies. The mission objective van is positioned on the lower level, roughly across from the initial upper-gallery entry route.

The atrium is also the point at which the mission opens up into several possible approaches. V can fight across the main floor, move through side rooms, use cover and elevation, or attempt to avoid much of the occupation. The exact enemy reaction depends on detection, combat and mission-state conditions.

Triple Xtreme

Triple Xtreme is a gym or workout centre inside the mall. It is one of the clearest examples of a planned commercial service that has become a gang facility. The front desk contains a computer connected to the local network, and a message there refers to moving the van into the main hall.

The gym is not a functioning player fitness service. It is an exploration location containing environmental storytelling, computers and loot. A technology shard concerning pain editors can also be found on shelves in the Triple Xtreme store on the second floor.

Hator Theater

Hator Theater is the mall’s cinema. It has three projection rooms and is the destination for the final section of I Walk the Line. The theatre is not normally available as a free-roaming entertainment venue in the base game. Its most important access state is the story sequence in which V reaches Bryce Mosley.

The film playing on the screen during the confrontation is One-Eyed Jacks, a 1961 western. This is an in-world screening rather than a general cinema activity that the player can select or revisit as a service.

Boxing area

The mall contains a boxing ring used for the final Pacifica fight in Beat on the Brat. The ring is mission-specific and should not be confused with a permanent combat arena or a repeatable public activity. Its purpose is to host V’s championship bout against Razor Hugh.

Factions and occupants

Animals

The Animals are the principal faction occupying the mall during I Walk the Line. Their presence is not merely decorative. They use the building as a temporary base and provide security for NetWatch operations connected with Bryce Mosley. The gang’s physical strength, combat focus and use of performance-enhancing substances make the mall’s interior battles heavily weighted towards aggressive close-quarters enemies.

Their main named representative in the area is:

The Animals’ occupation is a progression state. During the story mission, the mall is heavily guarded. Later, depending on the player’s progression and save state, the building can instead contain Scavengers or other hostile encounters.

NetWatch

NetWatch is represented by Bryce Mosley, the agent V is sent to find in the cinema. Mosley is operating from the mall while pursuing a conflict with the Voodoo Boys. His laptop and the cinema encounter provide the main NetWatch connection inside the GIM.

Bryce Mosley is a story-associated visitor and operator, not a permanent resident of the mall in the ordinary sense.

Voodoo Boys

The Voodoo Boys do not occupy the mall as their headquarters. Their role is external and mission-driven. Placide’s people watch the Animals from outside, direct V towards the garage and use the mall operation to locate the NetWatch agent. The distinction is important because the mall is in Pacifica, but its interior is not simply another Voodoo Boys-controlled zone.

Scavengers

After the Animals leave, Scavengers search the mall for valuables. This creates a different post-mission combat state from the original Animal occupation. Reports of later Scavenger activity are useful for practical exploration, but enemy presence and respawn behaviour can vary by patch, difficulty, mission progression and save state. Treat the Scavengers as a possible later occupant rather than a fixed replacement in every playthrough.

Named people connected with the mall

Story-associated visitors

This is a deliberately narrow directory. The mall contains many unnamed Animals, Voodoo Boys, Scavengers and mission NPCs, but the available evidence does not support presenting every unnamed guard or background figure as a named resident.

Access and routes

Normal approach

The mall has a fast-travel dataterm named Grand Imperial Mall. It is listed among the Pacifica and Coastview dataterms. The dataterm is a travel convenience, not proof that the mall is functioning as a public transport hub.

I Walk the Line route

The mission begins after M’ap Tann Pèlen and sends V from Batty’s Hotel towards the mall. The recommended route is:

The mission’s objective structure explicitly separates several optional steps, including reaching the van, connecting to it and dealing with Sasquatch.

I Walk the Line: practical walkthrough

Infiltration

The garage is the safest route in terms of mission logic because it is the approach the Voodoo Boys provide. It is not necessarily the safest combat route. The opening groups of Animals can be fought directly or bypassed with stealth, quickhacks and cover.

If the player triggers an alarm early, the interior becomes more difficult to navigate. Enemy positions and mission reactions can also affect whether the theatre route remains straightforward.

Finding the van

The van is in the atrium on the lower level. From the gallery, use the escalators and side rooms to reach it. The thick cable running from the van to nearby equipment helps identify the objective area.

Connecting to the van reveals that the NetWatch agent is in the cinema. A computer interaction in or around the van also alerts the agent to V’s presence, so this is not a consequence-free reconnaissance step.

Reaching Hator Theater

After the van sequence, follow the opened or indicated route towards the upper level. If the atrium fight has escalated, Placide may open a route onward. The theatre approach is guarded, and Sasquatch may be encountered before V reaches the cinema entrance.

A prior alarm or detection can change the state of the cinema gates and may cause Sasquatch to be waiting in a more direct position.

Bryce Mosley

Bryce Mosley is found inside Hator Theater. The confrontation leads to a major choice involving NetWatch and the Voodoo Boys. The consequences extend beyond the mall, affecting later dialogue and the Voodoo Boys sequence.

The cinema encounter is therefore the mall’s narrative climax. The building’s abandoned luxury becomes a backdrop for a conflict between a local gang, an international security organisation and V, who is treated by both sides as a disposable outsider.

Beat on the Brat

The Grand Imperial Mall is the venue for the Pacifica stage of Beat on the Brat. V faces Razor Hugh in the mall’s boxing ring. This is a separate activity from I Walk the Line and should be tracked independently in a completion checklist.

The available location evidence confirms the fight and opponent, but not a unique mall-specific reward item beyond the quest’s normal Beat on the Brat progression.

Items and exploration rewards

The GIM is primarily a combat and story location, not a vendor district. Its useful finds include:

The pain-editor shard is specifically reported on shelves in the Triple Xtreme store on the second floor. Because loot systems and item placement can vary by game version, build and level scaling, ordinary weapon drops should be treated as variable rather than a fixed inventory.

Computers and terminals

The Triple Xtreme front-desk computer contains a message about moving the van into the main hall. Other computers are generally used for local-network access and browsing rather than for a large chain of independent mall quests. Bryce Mosley’s laptop is separately associated with the cinema encounter.

Security and hazards

There is no evidence that the GIM operates as a normal NCPD-secured commercial property in 2077. Its security is factional and improvised. The Animals are acting as guards and base personnel, while NetWatch uses the building for a covert operation. That is distinct from formal NCPD control.
