About this guide

Scope: Cyberpunk 2077 base game, including the post-launch open-world state and purchasable apartment. Phantom Liberty locations in Dogtown are excluded. Major spoilers for early main jobs, Wakako Okada’s gigs and several Japantown side jobs follow.

Overview

Japantown is a sub-district of Westbrook, on the eastern side of Night City. It is not the whole of Westbrook, and it should not be confused with Old Japantown, the historical area referenced in wider Cyberpunk material. In Cyberpunk 2077, the playable district is a dense entertainment and nightlife zone built around Jig-Jig Street, Cherry Blossom Market, Megabuilding H8, casinos, clubs, braindance venues and Tyger Claw-controlled streets.

Japantown is one of the most useful areas to learn early. Wakako Okada operates here, several main and side jobs pass through it, the district contains some of Westbrook’s most recognisable interiors, and it provides access to both cheap street-level commerce and high-end entertainment. Its apparent cleanliness and tourism-oriented presentation conceal a strong Tyger Claws presence, illicit businesses, exploitation and recurring gang violence.

Geography and boundaries

Japantown occupies the entertainment-heavy part of Westbrook between the corporate centre and the wealthier residential areas. Its built environment changes rapidly over short distances:

The game does not present a formal street-by-street boundary line in the same way as a real-world municipal map. The practical boundary is the area labelled Japantown on the world map and the cluster of fast-travel points assigned to it. The district borders other Westbrook and City Center areas, but those neighbouring places should not be folded into the Japantown directory.

Excluded or treated separately

The official game material describes Japantown as a tourist and nightlife district with restaurants, bars, arcades, the Cherry Blossom Market and a Shinto shrine. The official digital artbook further frames it as Night City’s entertainment district, positioned to attract both wealthy visitors and people trying to imitate that lifestyle for one night.

Subareas and named places

Jig-Jig Street

Jig-Jig Street is Japantown’s red-light marketplace. It is located on Gill Street and contains brothels, Joytoys, food stalls, illegal or semi-legal vendors, Wakako’s pachinko parlour and several alleyways that become relevant during missions. It is both a commercial zone and a major social hub.

The area is not merely decorative. V can:

Jig-Jig Street is also one of the most concentrated locations for Tyger Claw street presence. The area’s neon advertising and sexual commerce are part of the district’s intended contrast: it looks like a tourist attraction, but the player is constantly reminded that much of its economy is controlled through coercion, protection and criminal networks.

Named Jig-Jig Street entries

Not every storefront is a functional shop. Several are scenery, mission dressing or non-enterable businesses. The names above should therefore be read as a location directory, not as a guarantee that every named façade offers a player service.

Cherry Blossom Market

Cherry Blossom Market is Japantown’s most recognisable open public square. It is a busy market and meeting place with food, stalls, advertising, decorative cherry-blossom imagery and a nearby Shinto-style religious landmark. The market is across from the Jig-Jig Street area and is one of the best starting points for exploring the district on foot.

Named Cherry Blossom Market entries

The market is also associated with a location used in the optional Balatro Joker hunt, where one of the Jokers can be found at the ramen restaurant. This is a separate optional activity, not a standard Japantown mission.

Megabuilding H8

Megabuilding H8 is a large residential and commercial tower on the northern side of the district. Its most important interior is Clouds, the braindance and sex-work venue central to Judy Álvarez and Evelyn Parker’s storyline.

Named Megabuilding H8 entries

Clouds is not available as a normal player-owned business. Access and interior availability depend on story progression. Its importance comes from the Automatic Love, The Space in Between, Disasterpiece and later Judy-related story material, rather than from repeatable shopping or free exploration.

Redwood Market

Redwood Market is another commercial location within the Japantown map area. It is less narratively prominent than Jig-Jig Street or Cherry Blossom Market, but it is useful as a navigation marker and fast-travel destination.

Named Redwood Market entries

The market contains a mixture of functional vendors and background dressing. As with other Night City markets, a business name on a sign does not necessarily indicate a purchasable service.

Japantown Apartment

The Japantown Apartment is a purchasable player property introduced in the post-launch apartment content. It is located in Westbrook and is separate from the free starting apartment in Megabuilding H10.

It is bought through the apartment interface on the world map rather than through a conventional in-world real-estate agent. The apartment’s map entry and availability are associated with Japantown.

Named Japantown residential entries

Leah Gladen’s apartment is a distinct mission-related or background residential entry and should not be treated as the same property as the apartment V can purchase.

Access and routes

From the City Center side

Japantown is reached from the west by crossing the major connections linking Westbrook with City Center and Corpo Plaza. This is the most visually direct route if approaching from corporate Night City. Follow the main road towards Westbrook, then use the map labels for Japantown West, Cherry Blossom Market or the nearby metro stations.

From Charter Hill and North Oak

Road connections lead into Japantown from the other Westbrook sub-districts. Charter Hill is the most natural approach from the south-west, while North Oak is the useful northern connection. Do not assume that a job marked “Westbrook” is necessarily inside Japantown. Westbrook is the district, and its jobs may be assigned to Charter Hill or North Oak instead.

On foot

For a shorter nightlife tour, start at Jig-Jig Street, walk through the market, then return via the side alleys. This exposes most of the district’s commercial atmosphere without requiring a vehicle.

Fast-travel and navigation directory

Some of these points sit at the edge of the map-labelled area or are best understood as nearby access points rather than subareas of Japantown itself. Regional map guides list them as useful fast-travel entries for the Japantown section.

Residents, characters and factions

Wakako Okada

Wakako is Japantown’s fixer and the district’s most important recurring character. She operates from a pachinko parlour on Jig-Jig Street. Her jobs range from extraction and delivery work to theft, assassination and recovery operations. She is not simply a quest marker: her presence communicates how Japantown’s commercial and criminal economies overlap.

V first visits her after the Watson lockdown ends, following the rescue of Sandra Dorsett. In The Gig, Wakako pays V €$3,380 and directs V to Cassius Ryder for a free Tyger Claws dermal-imprint tattoo.

Judy Álvarez

Judy is strongly associated with Megabuilding H8 and Clouds. Her role concerns braindance editing, exploitation at Clouds and the search for Evelyn Parker. Her story is principally advanced through the main jobs and later side jobs, so access to locations and character scenes changes with progression.

Evelyn Parker

Evelyn’s plans and disappearance drive several of the district’s most important story events. She is associated with Clouds, the Tyger Claws’ local operation and the braindance economy. Her storyline explains the human cost behind Japantown’s polished entertainment industry.

Hiromi Sato

Hiromi is associated with the Tyger Claws and the apartment used during the Clouds storyline. Her apartment is a mission location rather than a free-roaming residence that V can use at will.

Fingers M.D.

Fingers is the ripperdoc on Jig-Jig Street. He is a controversial character whose medical work and dealings become important during the investigation into Evelyn. His clinic is both a service location and a story location.

Factions

The Tyger Claws are the district’s principal gang. The Mox appear around sex-work and protection-related spaces, while Animals and Scavengers are more closely tied to individual missions or hostile encounters. Valentinos may appear in broader Westbrook activities without making the entire district their territory.

Factions

Businesses and services

Ripperdocs

Fingers M.D. is the principal named ripperdoc associated with Japantown. His clinic sells and installs cyberware when available, but his stock and the player’s access depend on game progression and the wider cyberware system. His clinic becomes especially important during Evelyn’s storyline.

Medical’s Assistance is another named medical or pharmaceutical storefront in the district directory. It should not automatically be treated as a full ripperdoc simply because of its name.

Weapons and equipment

Japantown contains weapon and equipment vendors, including a named gun vendor listed in regional shop guides. Vendor stock changes with level, progression and game updates, so exact rarity and inventory should not be treated as permanently fixed.

These entries represent a mixture of functional vendors and named façades. Check the vendor icon or interactable counter before travelling solely to buy a particular item.

Food, entertainment and nightlife

Two Joytoys are available on Jig-Jig Street early in the game, and their interaction is separate from the later romance paths.

Other named businesses and buildings

Several of these are environmental or mission-associated locations. The game’s signage deliberately makes Japantown feel commercially complete, but not every named establishment has a usable interior or a repeatable player service.

Missions and activities

Main jobs

Japantown is involved in several early and mid-game main jobs.

The Rescue

The opening rescue of Sandra Dorsett takes place in a Scavenger-controlled location associated with Japantown. After the job, V contacts Wakako and later visits her once the Watson lockdown has ended.

The Gig

This short side job follows the Sandra Dorsett rescue. V visits Wakako on Jig-Jig Street to collect the promised reward, then visits Cassius Ryder to receive the free Tyger Claws Dermal Imprint tattoo. The job is progression-gated by the end of the lockdown rather than by a high Street Cred requirement.

Automatic Love

V and Judy investigate Clouds in Megabuilding H8 while looking for Evelyn Parker. The job introduces the venue’s operating structure, the Tyger Claws’ control and the two braindance options available inside Clouds.

The Space in Between

This job leads V to Fingers M.D. on Jig-Jig Street. It is essential for advancing Evelyn’s story and makes Fingers’ clinic one of the district’s most important interiors.

Disasterpiece

The investigation moves through braindance-related spaces and links Japantown’s entertainment economy to the Scavengers’ exploitation network.

Wakako’s gigs

Regional listings identify five base-game gigs in Japantown:

These are fixer gigs, not all-purpose Japantown activities. Their availability depends on progression, Street Cred and the clearing of nearby work. Wakako’s gigs are a useful way to explore the district because they send V into streets, buildings and alleys that can otherwise appear to be background scenery.

Olive Branch

A delivery job involving Sergei Karasinsky. The player must transport a passenger and decide how to handle the situation at the destination. Its exact outcome depends on player choices and whether V investigates the vehicle before completing the delivery.

We Have Your Wife

An extraction job involving a kidnapped woman. It illustrates how Japantown’s wealthy-facing image coexists with gang abduction and forced movement through commercial or residential interiors.

Getting Warmer...

A recovery job involving a client in danger. This gig rewards careful searching and awareness of environmental hazards rather than simply following the most direct route.

Wakako’s Favorite

A rescue and recovery operation tied directly to Wakako’s network. It includes a mission-specific location and can involve stealth, combat or a mixture of both.

Greed Never Pays

An investigation and retrieval job centred on the district’s criminal economy. It is a good example of Wakako’s work turning a seemingly ordinary Japantown business into a hostile mission space.

The exact order and availability of gigs can vary with patch version and progression. The names above are the verified Japantown entries identified by regional guide listings, but this guide does not claim that every minor job marker or random encounter has been independently catalogued.

Side jobs

These jobs do not all take place entirely inside Japantown. Some begin there, end there or use Japantown locations as part of a wider storyline. Ex-Factor is associated with Japantown through Judy’s storyline, while Pisces and Pyramid Song belong to later consequences and locations beyond the district. They should therefore not be counted as wholly Japantown missions.

Optional activities

NCPD Scanner Hustles are fixed map activities, unlike random street combat. Their exact presence and marker state can be affected by completion and map filtering. Game8 provides a separate Japantown scanner-hustle map rather than treating these encounters as part of the gig directory.

Law enforcement, security and hazards

Japantown is not a safe district merely because it is wealthy or brightly lit. The main threats are:

The district’s danger is uneven. Public market streets are usually crowded and relatively calm, while service alleys, mission interiors and gang-controlled buildings can become immediately hostile. A wanted level can turn a stealthy approach into an open fight, particularly around busy roads where civilians and police have poor lines of sight.

Practical security advice

---

Practical security advice

  1. 01
Scan cameras before entering a hostile building.
  2. 02
Disable or hack cameras rather than shooting in crowded market areas.
  3. 03
Save before starting a fixer gig if you intend to test alternate outcomes.
  4. 04
Check bodies and locked side rooms after a mission objective updates.
  5. 05
Do not assume a business marked on the map is safe or neutral.
  6. 06
Use rooftops and service corridors when a gig allows multiple approaches.
  7. 07
Avoid treating random Tyger Claw groups as fixed NCPD activities. They are separate from named Scanner Hustles.

Items and rewards

The following rewards are specifically associated with Japantown activities or visits:

The Tyger Claws tattoo reward is one of the clearest fixed Japantown-related rewards in the base game.

Random loot, ordinary enemy drops and procedural container contents should not be listed as unique Japantown collectibles unless a source identifies them as fixed placements. This distinction matters because many guides combine fixed rewards with ordinary loot tables.

Lore and inspiration

Japantown’s visual identity draws on several overlapping ideas:

The official artbook describes it as an entertainment district positioned between corporate City Center and wealthy North Oak. Its high-rise towers function as advertisements visible from other parts of the city, while its businesses encourage visitors to spend beyond their means.

Jig-Jig Street is also explicitly described as Night City’s famous red-light district, while the official Cyberpunk 2077 website recommends visiting it and Cherry Blossom Market as contrasting photographic stops within the same Japantown outing.

The district therefore works as more than a Japanese-themed neighbourhood. It is a concentrated expression of Night City’s commercial logic: culture becomes branding, pleasure becomes an industry, and security is outsourced to gangs, corporations or whoever controls the building.
