Key takeaways

  • Regional Airport is in Jackson Plains, within the Badlands, rather than in Night City proper.
  • Its principal story appearance is in Life During Wartime, after the events at the power station and during Panam’s search for Hellman.
  • The airport is abandoned in 2077 and is not a usable passenger terminal, shop, garage or aircraft facility.
  • The Regional Airport fast-travel Dataterm is the most useful permanent facility at the site.
  • After completing Life During Wartime, a legendary media baseball cap with reactive layer can be collected from the top of the control tower, together with the shard Archived Conversation: John Wilson and Emily Wang.
  • The airport’s surrounding desert contains separate minor discoveries and random or open-world encounters. These should not automatically be treated as part of the airport itself.

About this guide

Scope: Cyberpunk 2077 base game, including the Badlands content added to the standard open world. Phantom Liberty content is excluded unless it directly affects the airport’s classification or access. Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the main job Life During Wartime, its outcome, and the airport’s hidden loot.

Overview

Regional Airport is an abandoned airfield in the Jackson Plains subregion of the southern Badlands. It is not a functioning airport, settlement or broad explorable district. In 2077, it is a compact ruin consisting of a deteriorating airport structure, a control tower, a runway, scattered cargo containers and desert approaches.

Its main importance is narrative. V and Panam Palmer pass through the airport during Life During Wartime, the main job in which they pursue a Kang Tao convoy and search for Anders Hellman. Outside that mission, the site is a quiet Badlands landmark with a fast-travel Dataterm, a post-mission legendary clothing item and several environmental details worth investigating.

The airport should not be confused with the wider southern Badlands, nearby fuel stations, Tango Tors Motel, the Solar Arrays or the abandoned fuel station farther south. Those are separate locations, even though they are connected by the same rural roads and are often grouped together in fast-travel guides.

Location and boundaries

Regional Airport lies in the southern Badlands, on the open plain known as Jackson Plains. The site is south of the main Badlands road network and is reached from the surrounding desert highways by an asphalt road that has fallen into disrepair. The location is recognisable on the map through its airport fast-travel marker and the remains of its runway and tower.

The boundary used in this guide is deliberately narrow:

The following are nearby or regionally associated places, but are separate locations:

Fast-travel directories place Regional Airport among the southern Badlands locations, while another location breakdown identifies the airport as part of Jackson Plains. These are different levels of hierarchy, not competing names: Badlands is the broad region, Jackson Plains is the local subregion, and Regional Airport is the named site within it.

History and setting

The airport before 2077

The wider Cyberpunk setting gives the airport a much more significant history than the ruined site initially suggests. In the 2040s, the Jackson Plains Regional Airport served as the main airfield for the Night City area after the Fourth Corporate War damaged or destroyed much of the region’s air-travel infrastructure.

It was associated with the Folk Nation, with Aldecaldo Peacekeepers providing security. The airport handled short-distance domestic flights, cargo aircraft and occasional orbital travel. Destinations described for the 2040s include Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver. The setting also describes regular visits from the Folk Nation-Sky Queen aerozeps Milwaukee and Omaha.

This history belongs primarily to the wider Cyberpunk tabletop continuity. It should not be read as evidence that these services are still available in the 2077 game. No passenger flights, ticket counters, working aircraft services or functioning airport businesses are present at the explorable site.

The airport in 2077

By 2077, the facility has been abandoned. The airport structures are heavily deteriorated, the surrounding desert has reclaimed parts of the airfield and the runway no longer functions as a maintained civil aviation surface. The area contains ruined buildings, cargo containers and a single prominent tower.

The Wraiths are associated with the airport’s wider 2077 history, but the airport is not presented as a permanent Wraith settlement or a staffed faction headquarters. During Life During Wartime, the active opposition is Kang Tao rather than a permanently stationed airport garrison.

Directory: named places within scope

The following names are the verified named entries directly associated with the location or its immediate site identity.

Airport and facilities

“Control tower”, “runway”, “airport buildings” and “cargo containers” are functional descriptions rather than separate map labels. They are included because they are distinct navigational parts of the explorable site.

Separate nearby locations

These are not part of Regional Airport, but commonly appear beside it in regional guides:

The airport should therefore be treated as one named location in Jackson Plains, not as a synonym for all southern Badlands landmarks.

Access and routes

Fast travel

The easiest way to reach the site is to unlock and use the Regional Airport Dataterm. Fast-travel guides list it as one of the southern Badlands Dataterms.

Driving from the Badlands

If approaching by vehicle, follow the desert roads towards the airport marker rather than attempting to cross the entire plain directly. The airport is connected to the wider Badlands road system by an old asphalt approach. The road is not a modern urban boulevard, and the surrounding terrain makes the site easier to identify from its runway and tower than from road signage.

The neighbouring southern Badlands Dataterms are useful route anchors, but they are not entrances to the airport:

Fast travel: Once the marker is unlocked

  1. 01
    Travel to Regional Airport.
  2. 02
Face the airport ruins and runway.
  3. 03
Search the main structure before leaving for the tower.
  4. 04
Climb the tower after the relevant mission condition has been met.
  5. 05
Sweep the containers and outer edges of the airfield before returning to the road.

Life During Wartime

Life During Wartime is the airport’s defining mission. It is a main job given by Panam Palmer and follows Lightning Breaks. The job’s locations include the Regional Airport, a fuel station and Sunset Motel, with Kang Tao serving as the principal enemy faction.

The airport section forms part of the search for Anders Hellman. V and Panam track the Kang Tao operation through the Badlands, leading to a confrontation involving the convoy and the airport area. The mission’s broader rewards include experience and Scorpion’s Apollo, while the airport itself has an additional exploration reward that becomes available after the mission.

Mission route

The exact combat sequence can vary depending on how the player handles the wider mission, but the practical route is:

The airport’s story state is not the same as its free-roam state. During the mission, the location is an active combat space with mission enemies and objectives. After the mission, it becomes a largely abandoned exploration site. A player revisiting it should not expect the full mission encounter to repeat.

Mission route

  1. 01
    Complete Lightning Breaks.
  2. 02
Begin Life During Wartime with Panam.
  3. 03
Follow the mission route towards the airport and its surrounding desert.
  4. 04
Deal with the Kang Tao forces encountered during the pursuit.
  5. 05
    Continue the objective involving Hellman.
  6. 06
After the airport portion is complete, return later if necessary to collect the tower loot.

Residents, characters and factions

Story-associated characters

The main characters connected to Regional Airport are:

Panam is the mission giver and V’s partner during the search. Hellman is the target of the operation. Kang Tao troops occupy the hostile role during the mission. The airport is not a home base for any of these characters.

Aldecaldos

The airport has an older setting association with the Aldecaldos as security providers in the 2040s, but that historical detail should not be confused with a permanent Aldecaldo facility in the 2077 game. Panam’s presence during Life During Wartime reflects the Aldecaldo storyline, not an active Aldecaldo airport settlement.

Wraiths

The Wraiths are associated with the abandoned airport and the wider Jackson Plains area in the 2077 setting. However, the available evidence does not establish a permanent named Wraith camp within the airport grounds. The nearby Wraith Camp is a separate Badlands location and should not be folded into Regional Airport’s boundary.

Ordinary NPCs

No permanent named residents, vendors, bartenders, ripperdocs, weapon dealers or service workers are verified at the airport itself. Any hostile personnel encountered during Life During Wartime are mission enemies, not civilian airport staff.

Story-associated characters

Security and law enforcement

Regional Airport has no functioning public airport security operation in 2077. There is no verified ticket checkpoint, NCPD station, customs office, working scanner or civilian security desk at the site.

During Life During Wartime, security is represented by Kang Tao forces connected to the mission. This is a temporary combat state. The airport should not be categorised as a Kang Tao-controlled district in the same way as a corporate facility with a permanent guard population.

The wider Badlands also differ from Night City’s urban districts in how encounters are distributed. The airport’s openness makes vehicles, long sightlines and cover from containers important during combat, but this is a practical level-design observation rather than evidence of a unique airport combat mechanic.

Buildings, landmarks and services

Control tower

The control tower is the most important landmark after the mission. It is also the location of the airport’s notable permanent reward.

After Life During Wartime has been completed, climb to the top of the tower and search the upper platform. The legendary media baseball cap with reactive layer is found there with the shard Archived Conversation: John Wilson and Emily Wang.

Because the item is placed on the tower rather than in a normal vendor inventory, it is easy to miss if the player leaves immediately after the mission.

Runway and airfield

The runway is largely an environmental remnant. It is useful for orientation and vehicle movement, but it is not an operational take-off or landing facility. The surrounding terrain is open desert, with broken surfaces, debris and abandoned airport infrastructure.

Cargo containers

The airport perimeter contains abandoned cargo containers. These provide environmental context for the site’s former freight role and can also act as cover during the mission. They should not be confused with the container yards found in Night City’s industrial districts.

Shops and businesses

No functioning shops or services are verified within Regional Airport in 2077.

For historical context, the 2040s setting material names the Calbraith Dinner as an airport bar and diner. That business belongs to the earlier tabletop-era airport and is not an operating restaurant in the base-game 2077 location.

Items, shards and collectibles

Legendary media baseball cap with reactive layer

The item is a fixed reward rather than a random drop. It is associated with the airport’s post-mission state. The available location evidence specifically places it on top of the tower after Life During Wartime.

Archived Conversation: John Wilson and Emily Wang

The shard is collected alongside the legendary cap. If you are returning for completion purposes, inspect the whole tower platform rather than looking only for the clothing item.

Nearby desert discoveries

The open desert around the airport contains other small discoveries, including bodies, shards and environmental scenes reported by players and guide sites. These should be recorded separately from the airport’s confirmed fixed loot unless their placement is directly tied to the airport structure.

One reported Badlands skill-shard location is reached from the Regional Airport fast-travel point and involves a body in an abandoned van in the desert. That description identifies the airport as a navigation starting point, not necessarily as the item’s exact sub-location.

A separate hidden desert scene near the airport has been described as a circular burn or impact-like mark with footwear and a shard. Community descriptions associate the shard with a conversation involving Peter Feldheimer and a lunar officer. Because this is not consistently documented as an official airport sub-area, it is safest to treat it as a nearby Badlands secret, not as a confirmed airport facility.

Enemies and combat

Mission enemies

These enemies are tied to Life During Wartime. They should not be treated as a permanent airport faction after the mission.

Free-roam enemies

The airport may contain open-world hostiles or encounter activity depending on the player’s save, patch state and whether nearby events have been completed. The available evidence does not support a fixed, permanent boss encounter at Regional Airport.

No unique airport boss is verified.

For a first visit

  1. 01
    Unlock the Regional Airport Dataterm.
  2. 02
Walk around the outer edge of the airport before entering the central ruins.
  3. 03
Inspect the runway and cargo containers to establish the site’s layout.
  4. 04
Enter the main airport structure and search containers and bodies.
  5. 05
If Life During Wartime is active, follow the mission objective rather than attempting to clear every corner immediately.
  6. 06
Once the mission is complete, return to the control tower.
  7. 07
    Climb to the top platform.
  8. 08
    Collect the legendary media cap.
  9. 09
Take the shard from the bag beside it.
  10. 10
Leave the airport by road and investigate nearby locations separately, beginning with Auto Werks or the southern road network.

Progression and missability

Before Life During Wartime

The airport can be visited as part of Badlands exploration, but its story significance is not active until the relevant main-job sequence begins. The tower reward is tied to the post-mission condition described by the location reference, so early exploration may not produce the final fixed loot.

During Life During Wartime

The airport becomes a mission combat location. Kang Tao personnel and objective markers take priority. Some routes and interactions are controlled by the mission rather than free-roam exploration.

After Life During Wartime

The mission activity ends, but the airport remains available for exploration. This is the safest time to collect the tower reward and inspect the site without mission pressure.

Missable content

The airport’s cap and shard are easy to miss through ordinary play because they are not placed on the main route as a mandatory objective. They are not known to be permanently lost simply because the player completes the mission, but they require a deliberate return to the tower.

No verified vendor stock, romance scene, unique dialogue branch or permanently missable airport-only mission has been identified in the available sources.

Lore and continuity notes

Regional Airport is a useful example of how Cyberpunk 2077 compresses the history of the wider Cyberpunk universe into environmental ruins.

In the 2040s, the airport was a meaningful regional transport hub with Folk Nation operations, Aldecaldo security and scheduled flights. By 2077, it has become a derelict site used mainly by smugglers, military forces and people moving through the Badlands. The contrast reinforces the setting’s recurring themes of infrastructure collapse, corporate warfare and the replacement of public services by private or faction-controlled networks.

The airport’s tabletop-era history should remain separate from the base game’s playable content:
