Key takeaways

  • Rocky Ridge town is only one part of the area The broader Rocky Ridge Plains include the Wind Farms, Swamp Forest, Edgewood Farm, Ingalls Farm, railway locations, industrial sites and nomad facilities.
  • The town is central to Ghost Town V and Panam Palmer restore power to the settlement, lure in the Wraiths and recover Panam’s stolen vehicle.
  • The Wraiths are the principal hostile faction, although the wider plains also contain other nomad groups, criminal activity and mission-specific enemies.
  • There is no normal town economy in 2077 The bar and fuel station are abandoned or repurposed, not functioning player shops.
  • The landscape is deliberately fragmented Roads, power lines and the I-9 are more useful navigation references than the sparse settlement itself.
  • Several missions use Rocky Ridge as a map label without taking place in the town Always distinguish the town, the plains and nearby mission locations such as the Wraith camp or Ingalls Farm.

About this guide

Scope: Base game, including the wider Rocky Ridge Plains region rather than only the abandoned town. Phantom Liberty content is excluded. Spoiler warning: This guide discusses Ghost Town, Panam Palmer’s quest line, Wraith activity and several optional discoveries.

Overview

Rocky Ridge can mean two related but distinct things in Cyberpunk 2077:

Treating the town as the whole location gives a misleading picture. The town is the best-known landmark because of Ghost Town, but the surrounding plains extend well beyond it and connect several otherwise separate Badlands locations. The wider region is bordered by the Red Peaks, Sierra Sonora, Interstate 9 and the northern Badlands approaches towards Night City.

Rocky Ridge is one of the clearest examples of the Badlands’ failed-development theme. It was advertised as a self-sufficient settlement close to Night City, but the planned infrastructure and nearby industrial economy collapsed. By 2077, the town had become a deserted shell, occasionally occupied by looters and Wraiths.

Introduction

  1. 01
Rocky Ridge town, an abandoned residential development and former company settlement.
  2. 02
The Rocky Ridge Plains, a much larger Badlands subregion containing farms, industrial ruins, wind farms, railway sites, swamps, nomad territory and several mission locations.

Rocky Ridge town

The town is the compact built-up area marked on the map as Rocky Ridge. It contains the unfinished housing development, the former bar, the fuel station and the power infrastructure used during Ghost Town. The town sits beside a paved route branching from the wider Badlands road network.

The game’s database describes it as a development intended to rival Rancho Coronado. Promotional material promised affordable housing, peace and quiet, nearby employment and a future motorway connection to Night City. The development failed when construction became too expensive and the surrounding economic plans collapsed.

Rocky Ridge Plains

The Rocky Ridge Plains are the broader geographical region. They occupy the eastern Badlands and include a mixture of open desert, low hills, a large gorge, wind turbines, industrial ruins, farmland and swampy ground. The area borders:

The northern section is more enclosed by steep hills and is reached by a narrower road from the town. The eastern plains contain the Wind Farms, while the southwest includes the Swamp Forest and the approaches to the municipal landfill.

What is not Rocky Ridge

The following locations are nearby or connected by roads, but should not automatically be treated as parts of the town:

Some of these can appear under Rocky Ridge in mission descriptions or broad map categories. That reflects quest geography or subregion boundaries, not necessarily inclusion within the built-up settlement.

---

Rocky Ridge is a dry, exposed Badlands environment rather than a conventional desert town. Its most recognisable features are:

The town itself has a stronger human-made identity than most of the Badlands. Its streets were laid out for a planned community, but many buildings appear incomplete, unused or stripped for parts. The contrast between orderly suburban planning and the surrounding wasteland is the location’s central visual idea.

The wider plains are less uniform. The Wind Farms provide the most open sightlines, while the swamp and northern hills break up vehicle routes. In the Swamp Forest, much of the vegetation is dead and the ground is covered by wastewater flowing from the landfill area. A small hut containing a green-tinted mannequin is a visual joke referencing Shrek.

Rocky Ridge Plains

Wider regional locations

Main approaches

The simplest route is from the main Badlands road network towards the paved road leading into Rocky Ridge. Once inside the town, the settlement is easy to read because the streets form a planned grid around the abandoned buildings.

The wider plains are easier to explore by car or motorcycle. On foot, distances between the town, farms, industrial ruins and railway areas are considerable, and the lack of dense landmarks can make the terrain feel repetitive.

Suggested exploration route

For a first visit outside the main quest, use this order:

This route gives a good sense of the failed town first, then expands into the industrial and rural landscape around it.

---

Suggested exploration route: steps

  1. 01
Enter Rocky Ridge from the main paved approach.
  2. 02
Visit the bar and fuel station.
  3. 03
Follow the power infrastructure around the settlement.
  4. 04
Search the rear of the houses for the optional bomb shelter.
  5. 05
Drive east towards the Wind Farms.
  6. 06
Return through the northern road and inspect the wider plains.
  7. 07
Continue towards the swamp and farms only if you are deliberately exploring the complete region.
  8. 08
Finish at the I-9 or the relevant mission location rather than trying to cross the entire area on foot.

The abandoned development

Rocky Ridge was marketed as a practical alternative to Night City. The promotional shard Build Your Future in Rocky Ridge! presents it as a cheap, convenient development with a planned freeway extension, available housing and future employment. The message’s optimistic language becomes darkly ironic once the player sees the unfinished streets and empty homes. The shard can be found on a concrete barrier outside the Rocky Ridge Bar.

The settlement’s former population is listed as 6,014 in supporting material, but this is a historical figure rather than the number of people present in 2077. By the time of the game, Rocky Ridge is described as completely abandoned.

Bar

The Rocky Ridge Bar is one of the town’s two principal named businesses. It was formerly associated with Jax, who is identified as its owner in location material. In 2077 it is not a functioning public bar with a regular service menu. It is instead a derelict structure and a major staging point for Ghost Town.

During the mission, the bar helps establish the town’s tactical layout. It sits near the Wraith presence and provides a useful reference point when Panam and V prepare their ambush.

Fuel station

The Rocky Ridge Fuel Station is the other major commercial structure. It was originally part of the company settlement and included a workshop and a small store. By 2077, it is no longer a normal service stop. The Wraiths use the surrounding structures, including the roof, as part of their local presence.

It is particularly important during Ghost Town, when V and Panam reconnect power to the settlement and turn the town’s infrastructure against the attacking Wraiths.

NameDetails
Rocky Ridge Fuel Station StatusAbandoned facility, mission location; not a confirmed functioning shop or repair service.

Power substation

The power substation is a mission-critical facility in Ghost Town. Panam’s plan requires V to inspect the local systems, connect jumper cables and restore the electrical supply. The substation is also one of the clearest examples of Rocky Ridge being designed as a functioning town rather than a random collection of Badlands buildings.

The substation is not presented as a permanent service facility for the player. Its significance is tied to the quest sequence and the town’s electrical infrastructure.

---

Former residents

Rocky Ridge has named former residents in its supporting material. These people are not a functioning community in 2077, and they should not be confused with current inhabitants.

These names mainly support the town’s environmental storytelling and its history as a failed residential development.

Visitors and story-associated characters

The following characters are linked to Rocky Ridge through missions, but are not ordinary permanent residents of the town:

Panam’s connection is the most important. Nash, a Wraith affiliated with the Raffen Shiv, steals Panam’s vehicle and cargo. V helps her recover them in Rocky Ridge during Ghost Town.

Visitors and story-associated characters

Wraiths

The Wraiths are the dominant hostile presence in the settlement during Ghost Town. They are a Raffen Shiv group and use the abandoned structures for concealment, surveillance and defence.

Their presence is not equivalent to permanent occupation of every building. Rocky Ridge remains largely empty, with the gang using selected structures and the surrounding streets as a temporary position. After the relevant mission sequence, the town’s exact population and hostile occupancy can vary according to game state.

Aldecaldos

The Aldecaldos are associated with the wider Rocky Ridge Plains through Panam’s quest line and the mobile camp. Their camp is not the same location as the abandoned town. It should be treated as a separate nomad facility in the wider region.

---

Ghost Town

Ghost Town is the defining Rocky Ridge mission. It is a main job connected to Panam Palmer and Rogue’s plan to locate Anders Hellman. The Rocky Ridge portion begins after Panam explains that Nash stole her vehicle and cargo.

Rocky Ridge sequence

The available objectives and the Wraith encounter make Rocky Ridge function as a temporary combat arena. The town’s roads, rooftops, bar and fuel station are not merely scenery, because the mission uses the electrical network and sightlines between buildings as part of the plan.

Rewards and consequences

Because mission outcomes can differ, do not treat every item as guaranteed in every playthrough. The mission page identifies both Widow Maker and the Archer Quartz as dependent rewards.

Riders on the Storm

Riders on the Storm uses the Rocky Ridge area label as part of its broader Badlands setting. The mission concerns the rescue of Saul Bright from the Wraiths and moves through locations including the Aldecaldo camp, Sierra Sonora and the Wraith camp.

Rocky Ridge is therefore relevant to the regional quest chain, but the rescue itself should not be described as taking place in the abandoned town. The mission’s named locations include the mobile camp, Corp-Bud Cement Factory and Ingalls Farm. It can award Overwatch, while Problem Solver is identified as missable.

The Hunt

The Hunt is primarily associated with River Ward’s investigation and locations such as the NCPD lab, trailer park and farms. Rocky Ridge can appear as a dependent sub-district or regional label, but the town is not the main setting. The side job can reward Tinker Bell, which is missable.

Queen of the Highway

Queen of the Highway is part of Panam’s Aldecaldo quest chain and is associated with the Rocky Ridge Plains in regional listings. It is not a town activity or a service available from Rocky Ridge’s abandoned businesses.

NCPD scanner activity

The Rocky Ridge region contains at least one Suspected Organised Crime Activity scanner hustle. The listed event is located at I-9 within the Rocky Ridge sub-district and involves Bruce Ward and Wraiths.

Suspected Organised Crime Activity: Rocky Ridge

This is an important example of why the town and regional label must be separated. The activity is classified under Rocky Ridge, but its listed location is I-9 rather than the town centre.

Build Your Future in Rocky Ridge!

This readable shard is the clearest textual source for the town’s intended purpose. It advertises Rocky Ridge as:

It is found on a concrete barrier outside the Rocky Ridge Bar, particularly during or around the Ghost Town area.

Bomb shelter

An optional bomb shelter is hidden at the rear of a house on the side of town opposite the wind turbines. The practical way to locate it is to follow the power transmission line. The shelter contains ammunition, weapons and several miscellaneous items.

This discovery is separate from the principal Ghost Town objectives. It is easy to miss because the town’s mission route focuses attention on the substation, rooftops and Wraith positions rather than the outer houses.

Mission rewards

These are not all items physically located in Rocky Ridge town. They are included because they are directly linked to missions or regional activities associated with Rocky Ridge.

---

Rocky Ridge has no normal visible NCPD presence or active municipal security force. Its dangers come from:

The in-world description warns that the abandoned buildings may collapse without warning. The game does not turn this into a complex structural-collapse mechanic, but it reinforces the settlement’s environmental danger and neglect.

Practical combat advice

---

Rocky Ridge’s former commercial buildings should not be mistaken for active player services.

The available evidence confirms the historical or environmental identities of these places, but does not establish functioning vendors, repair services, purchasable property or regular shop inventories in the base game. The fuel station’s workshop and store are part of its setting, not confirmed player services.

---

Before Rocky Ridge became a failed suburb, the area was associated with Pol-Bud Miasto, a container-based company town serving nearby industrial facilities. The limestone mine to the northwest and cement works to the south formed part of the economic background.

The later Rocky Ridge development attempted to replace that industrial identity with a suburban one. The plan depended on a freeway extension, new construction work and continued investment. Once the nearby businesses failed and the infrastructure became too expensive, the development lost its purpose. Construction stopped, workers left and the homes became vacant.

This history explains why the region contains such a strange mixture of:

Rocky Ridge is not simply an old town. It is a failed attempt to overwrite an older industrial settlement with a suburban future that never arrived.

The elevation sign

Rocky Ridge’s welcome signs state that the town is 4,505 feet above sea level. This is generally treated as an in-game sign error or oddity rather than a reliable geographical measurement. The figure is worth noting as trivia, but should not be used to establish the region’s actual elevation.

Series appearances and continuity

The guide above focuses on the base game’s 2077 continuity. References to Pol-Bud Miasto, Corp-Bud and the former company settlement describe historical context, not a separate playable version of Rocky Ridge.

Rocky Ridge Plains

---

Is Rocky Ridge a district of Night City?

No. It is in the Badlands, outside the city’s urban districts. It is associated with the broader Rocky Ridge Plains and sits among the eastern Badlands approaches.

Is Rocky Ridge the same as Rocky Ridge Plains?

No. Rocky Ridge is the abandoned town. Rocky Ridge Plains are the larger geographical subregion containing the town and numerous surrounding locations.

Can V buy a house or business in Rocky Ridge?

No confirmed purchasable property is associated with the town in the base game.

Can V use the fuel station as a shop or repair garage?

The station has a historical workshop and store, but the game does not establish it as a functioning player service. Treat it as an abandoned location and mission set piece.

Who controls Rocky Ridge?

The Wraiths are the main hostile faction associated with the town in 2077. The wider plains are contested nomad territory and include Aldecaldo-associated locations as well as other criminal and industrial sites.

What is the main mission in Rocky Ridge?

Ghost Town, the main job involving Panam Palmer, Nash and the recovery of Panam’s stolen vehicle.

Is the NCPD scanner hustle in the town?

The Rocky Ridge scanner activity is listed at I-9, within the Rocky Ridge sub-district. It should not automatically be placed in the central settlement.

What is the best optional loot in Rocky Ridge?

The bomb shelter behind one of the houses is the most notable fixed optional discovery. It contains weapons, ammunition and other items. Mission-linked rewards such as Widow Maker and Problem Solver depend on quest circumstances and are not all guaranteed town loot.
