About this guide

Scope: Cyberpunk 2077, base game Location type: Badlands roadside motel and story location District: Badlands Sub-area: Eastern Badlands Primary associated job: “Ghost Town” Fast-travel point: Sunset Motel Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the Panam Palmer storyline, the optional Nash encounter and later consequences of the Badlands missions.

Overview

The Sunset Motel is a small roadside stop in the eastern Badlands, far beyond Night City’s dense urban districts. It is best known as the meeting place for V, Panam Palmer and the 6th Street gang during the main job “Ghost Town”, but the location also serves as a temporary base for later stages of Panam’s storyline.

Although the motel is not a large explorable settlement, it is more than a single mission backdrop. It contains a roadside entrance, parking area, motel rooms, an upstairs bar, a garage and a nearby fast-travel dataterm. Its importance comes primarily from its connections: it links the Rocky Ridge section of the eastern Badlands with the roads leading towards the Sunshine Motel, the wind farms and Panam’s wider quest chain.

The Sunset Motel should not be confused with the Sunshine Motel, another Badlands motel, or the unnamed Northside motel that was reportedly referred to as “Sunset Motel” in older terminology before later patches and apartment content clarified its identity. The motel covered here is the Badlands location used in Panam’s missions.

Location and boundaries

The Sunset Motel sits beside the main highway through the eastern Badlands. It is one of several isolated roadside locations scattered across the desert, rather than a named town or a subdivision with its own formal neighbourhood boundary.

The wider landscape is the eastern Badlands, a broad area containing Rocky Ridge, the Desert Film Set, the Sunshine Motel, the wind farms, the Wraith Camp and several nomad-related locations. These are neighbouring locations, not subareas of the Sunset Motel.

The motel is also distinct from nearby places whose names are easy to confuse:

The Badlands are divided into several broad zones rather than functioning as one continuous city district. The Sunset Motel belongs to the eastern group of locations, so it should not be treated as representative of the whole Badlands region. The southern Badlands, including the Biotechnica protein farm, Laguna Bend and the Badlands dam, are separate areas with their own landmarks and story content.

For practical purposes, the location consists of

  1. 01
The motel building and its external walkways.
  2. 02
The ground-level entrance and parking area.
  3. 03
    The upstairs bar.
  4. 04
The motel rooms used during Panam’s storyline.
  5. 05
    The adjoining garage.
  6. 06
The surrounding roadside pull-off and desert approaches.
  7. 07
The nearby Sunset Motel fast-travel dataterm.

Named directory: Sunset Motel and immediate scope

Core location

The bar, garage and rooms are descriptive functional areas within the motel rather than separately named map locations. They are included because they have distinct uses during missions.

Named characters present or directly associated

Panam is the principal story character at the motel. Boz is the 6th Street representative involved in the merchandise exchange. Noah is the bartender who serves V and Panam. Johnny Silverhand is associated with the location through story dialogue and scenes involving V, rather than as an ordinary resident or worker.

Factions

These factions do not all control or permanently occupy the motel.

The 6th Street gang appears at the motel for the deal in “Ghost Town”. The Raffen Shiv are associated with the earlier optional assault on Nash’s hideout, but that combat encounter occurs away from the motel. The Aldecaldos are connected through Panam and her later storyline, not because the motel is an Aldecaldo camp.

The motel’s interior

The building is a functional roadside motel with a worn, utilitarian appearance. Its most important interior is the upstairs bar, where Panam and V wait after the 6th Street exchange. The room is used for conversation and character development rather than as a regular drinking venue or commercial hub.

The bar

The bar is operated by Noah. During “Ghost Town”, V can sit with Panam and order a drink after she completes her deal with Boz. The conversation reveals what Panam was transporting and gives her an opportunity to discuss her situation in Night City.

The bar is not presented as a major public venue like the Afterlife, Totentanz or the El Coyote Cojo. Its importance is narrative. It is a neutral, temporary meeting space where Panam can finish business before she and V continue the search for Hellman.

Motel rooms

The motel rooms are used during the overnight section of “Ghost Town”. V and Panam rent a room after the bar conversation. Depending on dialogue choices, V may ask to share the room or remain separate. The scene is significant for Panam’s relationship arc, but it is not a full romance scene and does not by itself guarantee the romance route.

The room also reinforces the motel’s function as a temporary refuge. Panam is a nomad who is between allegiances, while V is pursuing a lead that requires cooperation with people outside the city. The motel provides a brief pause between the recovery of Panam’s vehicle, the confrontation with Nash and the dangerous operation to intercept Hellman.

Garage

The motel garage is used as part of Panam’s storyline. It is not a general-purpose player garage, vehicle showroom or purchasable property. Its most important function is as a mission space and staging area during the Badlands jobs.

Players should not assume that every vehicle associated with Panam or Saul can be obtained simply by exploring the motel. Vehicle rewards and vehicle appearances are tied to specific quest states and later missions.

Access and routes

The Sunset Motel can be reached by driving through the eastern Badlands. The most reliable approach is to use the map marker or fast-travel dataterm, then follow the highway into the motel’s parking area.

From Night City

Leave the city through the eastern Badlands approaches and follow the main road towards Rocky Ridge and the surrounding desert routes. The motel is positioned on the highway network rather than behind a quest-only loading area, so it can be visited during free exploration once the Badlands are available.

From Rocky Ridge

Rocky Ridge is one of the closest major story-related locations. During “Ghost Town”, the route from Panam’s recovered vehicle leads towards the motel after the optional Nash detour or after V and Panam decide to proceed directly with the 6th Street deal.

From the Sunshine Motel

The Sunshine Motel is another eastern Badlands landmark. It is not part of the Sunset Motel complex, but it lies along the same broad highway network and can be used as a visual reference when travelling through the eastern desert.

Fast travel

The Sunset Motel dataterm is permanently useful for Badlands exploration. It provides access to the eastern road network and is also a practical starting point for travelling towards the cave associated with the free Rayfield Caliburn.

Fast-travel listings for the Badlands place the Sunset Motel among the eastern locations, alongside Rocky Ridge, Sunshine Motel, Big Rock, I-9 East, Far Ridge and the Old Turbines area.

Mission walkthrough: “Ghost Town”

“Ghost Town” is the motel’s defining mission. The job begins after V speaks to Rogue at the Afterlife and agrees to pay for information about Anders Hellman. Rogue connects V with Panam Palmer, who needs help recovering her vehicle and cargo.

Before travelling to the motel

At this point, Panam explains that Nash, a Raffen Shiv, betrayed her. V can either continue towards the motel or agree to help Panam attack Nash’s hideout.

Optional Nash encounter

The Nash assault is optional. Refusing to help Panam does not prevent the motel sequence or permanently end her storyline. Agreeing to help leads to a combat encounter against Nash and other Raffen Shiv members.

The Widow Maker is the principal unique reward from this optional route. Guides consistently identify Nash as the source of the rifle, while the choice to attack him is treated as optional within “Ghost Town”.

If V refuses the detour, the mission proceeds directly towards the deal. Some walkthroughs also report that declining Panam’s revenge can affect whether Rogue later provides the Archer Quartz “Bandit” as a reward. Because this reward is tied to dialogue and quest-state conditions, players seeking it should make a manual save before choosing whether to help Panam.

The 6th Street deal

The cargo exchanged with Boz is identified in the mission dialogue as beta-haloperidol, described as medication for cyberpsychosis. The scene also establishes Panam’s precarious position: she is trying to establish herself in Night City while relying on old contacts and informal deals.

The mission then progresses into “Lightning Breaks”, which continues the effort to locate Hellman. The Sunset Motel is listed as a location for both jobs in location and quest databases.

Progression changes

The motel’s importance changes according to the player’s progress.

Before “Ghost Town”

The building can be encountered as a Badlands landmark and fast-travel point, but its story activity is not yet active. Panam is not available at the motel as a free-roaming resident.

During “Ghost Town”

The motel becomes a scripted mission location. Panam, Boz and Noah appear in their mission roles. The 6th Street meeting, bar conversation and room sequence are all controlled by the quest.

During “Lightning Breaks”

The motel is used again as part of the follow-up mission. It functions as a staging point before V and Panam continue towards the next operation.

After Panam’s storyline

The motel remains accessible as a world location and fast-travel point, but its major character scenes are no longer available in the same scripted form. Panam does not become a permanent motel resident, and the motel does not transform into an Aldecaldo base.

The exact availability of minor ambient characters and parked vehicles may vary by quest state, platform and patch. The fixed, reliable content is the motel structure, the fast-travel point and its main quest scenes.

Items and rewards

What not to expect

The Sunset Motel is not a dedicated loot dungeon. There is no verified large collectible set, tarot mural, cyberpsycho encounter or permanent boss fight centred on the motel itself.

Random weapons, consumables and containers may appear according to ordinary world-loot rules, but they should not be confused with unique motel rewards. The fixed iconic item associated with the nearby storyline is the Widow Maker, and it comes from Nash rather than from the motel bar or rooms.

Fixed or quest-linked rewards

Enemies and security

The Sunset Motel does not function as a permanent enemy base.

The principal hostile factions connected with the location are:

The 6th Street presence at the motel is primarily a scripted negotiation. It is not normally a combat encounter that players must clear before entering the building. The motel should therefore be approached as a story meeting place, not as a gang stronghold.

There is no verified dedicated NCPD checkpoint, police station or security facility at the motel. The surrounding Badlands are less tightly policed than Night City, and the motel’s isolation is part of its narrative function.

Nearby connections

The following named locations are useful when planning an exploration route:

These are neighbouring or connected Badlands locations, not components of the Sunset Motel.

A useful route for a first visit is:

This route keeps the motel as the centre of a manageable eastern Badlands circuit without incorrectly treating the entire eastern region as part of the motel.

Lore and atmosphere

The Sunset Motel represents a type of place that is common in the world of Cyberpunk 2077: a business that survives because people still need somewhere to stop, trade, sleep or disappear, even after the surrounding social infrastructure has broken down.

Its position between Night City and the open Badlands makes it a natural meeting point. It is sufficiently remote for informal deals, but connected enough to the highways for smugglers, mercenaries and nomads to reach it easily. The motel’s worn rooms and modest bar contrast with the high-tech corporate spaces that dominate the city, giving Panam’s storyline a deliberately more grounded setting.

The location also serves as a transition point for V. Before arriving, V is following Rogue’s lead and treating Panam as a temporary contractor. After the motel conversation, the relationship becomes more personal and develops into one of the game’s major companion storylines.
